Head of Barketing
Learn moreNelly and Stephan adopted Lou from the Spanish island of La Gomera through an animal welfare organization. Lou – formerly Luci – was already 2 years old and was abandoned by a hunter due to her poor hunting instincts. The half-starved little mouse weighed just 13.5 kg when she was finally able to find a loving home in beautiful Heilbronn. Now, Lou happily wanders through the world, weighing a proud 20 kg on her healthy ribs. Happy, yes, but unfortunately still very anxious! Because of her terrible experiences, she no longer trusts strangers (she's especially suspicious of photographers! 😉) and therefore usually prefers to hide behind her mother as quickly as possible!
Since everyone in the SmoothieDog family is allowed to do what they do best and what they like best, you will rarely see Lou in front of the scenes – even though she has the most important job behind the scenes:
>> No new variety will be launched without Lou's consent! <<
______
An interesting dog story on the side:
Lou immediately reacts to any food containing chicken with flatulence and diarrhea. Therefore, we initially stopped giving her SmoothieDog chicken varieties, simply because we thought "Lou can't tolerate chicken."
We therefore developed the “LAMB” variety especially for Lou because we have had the best experiences with this meat…
At some point, we simply gave her a "CHICKEN" SmoothieDog – and? NOTHING! Everything was wonderful!
To check, we once again had chicken from a popular food manufacturer and suddenly we had unbearable flatulence again.
We've already read similar things in several BARF forums and therefore firmly believe that dogs' intolerances to certain types of meat aren't due to the meat itself, but rather to the way the animals lived and how they were processed. Lou and all the lovely dogs in the world inspire us to make our dog smoothies with really good meat!
Idea generator and founder
Read moreWithout Stephan - no Smoothie Dog! Stephan had this seemingly simple idea back in the summer of 2016. There was a report on television about the
Trend “Smoothies”.
At that time, Nelly and Stephan were busy thinking about the reasons for the loss of their dog "Becks," which they attributed to improper feeding. The report repeatedly emphasized the positive effects of smoothies on human health.
Then Stephan asked the question “Are there actually dog smoothies?”
Nelly and Stephan started researching and found two great books with recipe ideas for homemade dog smoothies and a few blog posts with similar recipe ideas – but otherwise, no hits! The cool name "Smoothie Dog" was also available, and the website was immediately added to Stephan's shopping cart. As life would have it, the madness of everyday life caught up with them, and the idea was put on the back burner again and again. But the vision persisted and continued to develop in their minds. What's more, the idea resonated with everyone who listened. So the two plucked up the courage and finally got started...
Stephan enjoys social media and is the voice of our community. Stephan feels right at home on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and other social media platforms! Stephan generally manages all electronic matters for us and handles all operational matters.

Read moreFelix is primarily responsible for sales at SmoothieDog and is part of the company's management team. Like Nelly, Felix successfully completed his training as a nutritionist specializing in canine nutrition and is now putting what he has learned and experienced to good use. Since Felix "lives" SmoothieDog, he doesn't really have any free time anymore—so listing his hobbies here isn't really that helpful ;).
Felix was the biggest fan and supporter the moment Stephan told him about the idea of “developing a dog smoothie”!
As part of his studies at Heilbronn University, he conducted a market research study during the founding phase of SmoothieDog and, while conducting surveys, sold his first smoothies on the side. Why? Because Felix does everything he does with enthusiasm and passion – and because he is 100% convinced of our products and the SmoothieDog philosophy. Therefore, it was only natural that Nelly and Stephan brought Felix into the SmoothieDog family when they were looking for the "right" person for sales!

View SelectionNelly actually loves spending her whole day learning about what dogs and cats should and should not eat, what's good for them, and what's not. This enthusiasm for SmoothieDog recipes probably stems from her roots in the restaurant industry, but above all from her firsthand experience of the damage that improper feeding can do to a healthy dog's body. If you want to learn more about this, just check out our "story"!
Nelly enjoys spending a lot of time in production, working with her dad to refine the processes, flavors, and smells, meet with our suppliers, visit the meat processing plants, and have at least a hundred more variety ideas in her drawer. So, stay tuned.
Incidentally, in the summer of 2016, when Stephan asked the all-important question, "Do dog smoothies actually exist," Nelly was sitting next to him on the couch. She picked up her phone, googled, and answered, "No." Being a true doer, she repeatedly pushed to turn the idea into reality and finally make SmoothieDog a reality.
She loves ideas, requests, and feedback on compatibility—so please share your suggestions.

To the ingredient glossarySonja, like us, is a Heilbronn native. She lived in Romania from the beginning of 2017 to the end of 2019, during which time she founded Hearts4Paws. She is now back in beautiful Heilbronn am Neckar, but continues to visit the shelter as often as possible to be close to the animals, support the local veterinarians, and, above all, provide her community with in-depth insights into animal welfare.
From the very beginning, Sonja followed SmoothieDog's development and supported us with our founding idea and our first steps on social media. Nelly also visited the shelter and was able to witness the incredibly important work firsthand and be there for a few days. Many tears were shed, and one thing was clear after the visit: SmoothieDog is now supporting Hearts4Paws!
We therefore want to continually contribute through campaigns and send a very important message: Adopt don't shop ! Anyone who would like to support the wonderful work of Hearts4paws eV independently of our campaigns can find all the information here:
